November 4, 201114 yr Good Morning Friends,You have a board that was straight as an arrow when you brought it into the shop but when you picked up that board to start to use it in the project, you found that it crooked some and if you were to true it up full length you would loose much of the usable wood from that board. How wold you salvage the board with very little loss of wood?
November 4, 201114 yr Cut it at least in half, maybe more, depending on the length of the project. Then, using a "shooting board" (as I call it), clamp the curved wood on the board and skin cut the edge straight. Repeat for the remaining board(s). I don't have a Jointer.Larry
November 5, 201114 yr Author Good Morning Larry,You and I are in the same boat for I sold my jointer as it hardly ever got used. I find the different parts that can be cut out of the board and cut it into lengths and as you stated use a shooter/straight edge board to true up the short length with little loss of wood.
