Friday, First Friday in November, What's on your woodworking agenda

Featured Replies

Can you believe it, this is the first of November. Where has 2011 gone? So much to do and so little time to do it. Christmas is only six short weeks away so I hope you are getting those projects well underway and ready.

I finished up four cutting boards last night for a First Friday craft show tonight. Outdoors so it is going to be a bit cool here. In the mid 40's by show time. I get this one done and I have a few weeks before the next one.

Tomorrow will be spend I hope finishing up the Kitchen Island project. The case it together, face frame attached so it is on to finishing up those raised panel doors, installed the pull out shelves and finishing the top. Should be a full day in the shop.

What are you working on? Christmas projects, home improvement projects, or shop projects. Tell us about what you have planned for the weekend.

Starting on a couple of mail box door banks. The ones that look like the mail trucks.

I've had the doors (actually had 40 of them) for 5 years. it's about time, don't you think?

John, I cannot believe the year is almost over. I have a cabinet job in the works, and another behind it. The current one is to be installed the weekend of the 19th. It's just a couple big utility cabinets and a table for our community college, that job finally came through, it took awhile for the school to approve the materials funds up front. Usually they work on a 30 day billing, so fronting the money is not common to them. But they went with me as a small business owner/vendor. Very cool, I hope this opens up more opportunities in the future with them.

Then, I think I will have another kitchen cabinet job to be installed this early spring. Which means I need to start working on it through the holidays, as I only have weekends as many of us do to build an entire kitchen.

We are hopefully going to get some rain today and we can throw some logs on the fire, they are predicting snow at the 4000' level. I am heading up to the mountains in a few hours to help out a friend, she needs some door seals installed before the weather gets too cold.

Have a wonderful weekend all!

I'll be finishing up on my silicone mold and then building a jig for attaching stainless braid to brass tube for a pen kit which will hold the braid tight to the tube while glueing and the cutting the brass tube & braid assembly square for casting in the new mold. This is an example of the pen I want to assemble taken from the IAP website: ning-stainlessbraidpen-38426-68.jpg?widt

I've got a craft fair from 8-4 tomorrow, then on to my regular job. Sunday is Church then I need to winterize one of the wells on our property and make some picture frames.

Making an attempt to find the floor in my shop.  I'm tired of wading through sawdust.

God bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.

No wood working for me this weekend I have split my inventory to do 2 good size craft shows.  Last year they both were my best and this year they are on the same weekend.  Spent this last week making over 150 puzzles, and some new displays.  Hoping for a repeat of last year and maybe a little better.

Nothing for me this weekend. Today was my wife's birthday so she went to a spa with my daughter and daughter-in-law to do all the mineral pools and mud baths. They had a great time. Saturday morning I will be having breakfast at 6am with an old friend of mine I used to go to church with. Saturday afternoon we will be having lunch with my wife and kids out and then spending the rest of the day with my wife. Sunday is church and then we will be going out to a pizza place to hang with friends for lunch and celebrate another old friend's birthday. His name is Curt and he passed away from cancer earlier this year so we are all getting together on his birthday and cheer on his Raiders as they were always his favorite team. So while I won't get anything wood related done, it will be a good weekend with family and old friends.

So how did your weekend work out. I usually set an aggressive schedule for myself and seem to never get everything done. I did get the raised panel doors made on Saturday just before the Alabama football game and then got them all glued up today. Even got two of them out of the clamps and sanded.

Mike did you come up with a way to cut the tube and braid? I like that pen and will be interested in following your process.
