November 7, 201114 yr Hi all,  Before I lay me down to sleep i thought I would ask you all what you would finish a shaving brush with?  This brush of course would see LOTS of water over it's useful lifetime. Would CA work or would it turn mushy? If water sealer is to be used, what is best that will not tarnish or change the color of the work? Does it come in small containers?  Last question is on the glue to attach the head, would epoxy work or would that later have a problem with moisture too?  Thank you  Badger hair & Beech shaving brush.  Charles
November 7, 201114 yr Charles, I would probably finish it with some of the General Finishes Turners finish. I think the epoxy will be fine for the brushes. I have not put one of these together, but it should be fine. John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
November 7, 201114 yr I really like the new General Finish for turners- you can read more about it here-Â http://www.generalfinishes.com/retail-products/water-base-top-coats-sanding-sealers/wood-turners-finish
March 27, 201214 yr On the old days threy'd have used varnish. The water issue is going to be an issue for any finish.Do you have a vacuum pump? If so you might put it under vacuum with epoxy and a slow hardener liker West 209Failing that most any catalyzing finish should be good dunno 'bout super glue though. my go to finish is General Finishes Enduro pre cat 181
September 28, 201213 yr I've not made these yet, but I think some kind of poly finish would work. make sure to seal the whole piece before you glue in bristles. Have heard the ca finish is waterproof.Dave
