When a friend showed me her Oil and Bread Boards, we knew these were going to be my next set of Christmas gifts.

ning-img-0415600x450-38152-32.jpgUPDATE- Home made bread and herded Olive Oil for dipping!!

These are made from Maple, Walnut, Cherry, Sapele and some Purple Heart. They are 16†to 20†long and 5†to 6†wide and about 3/8†thick. The handles sit on white posts from Hobby Lobby- bought all they had and need some more to finish the remaining 8 boards. The posts are actually necklace “beads†and are captured with a 2 1/4â€- 6×32 flat head machine screw. The ramekins are from Pier One Imports. They sit in a 1/8†deep recess. Clear rubber “Bumpers†on the bottom to act as non-slip feet. The finish is pure mineral oil.

Mimi said she will make marinara sauce and we will bake baguettes to complete the gifts.

As always- comments and criticisms are always welcome.

Those turned out real nice!

I have seen similar ones before but the hole for the bowl was done all the way through so that the bowls would not tip or slide when using a knife or spoon as well as not fall out when carrying. How did you do the 1/8" recess? it doesn't look like a typical forstner bit as there is no center hole.

Thanks for the kind word!

I thought about making the hole go completely through but went with the recess instead. To create the recess, I cut a hole in some 3/4" stock, clamped it to the board and used a top bearing pattern bit on my plunge router.

I knew that....but had a brain fart and forgot about the pattern bit until after I hit the send button.40.gif

Regardless of the hole, I do like the pattern and design. Those should go over very well as gifts.

Lew, those are awesome. I really like the design on those. I seen a lot of these but I don't think I have seen one like this. I like the handles. Someone is going to be real happy to get those for Christmas. I bought some bowls to make some of these just haven't gotten around to it. I picked up the bowls at an Old Time Pottery store.

Seeing these I need to get busier and make some.

Thanks for the kind words, John. I was going to buy drawer handles for these- until I saw the price. Being the cheap  frugal type, I made my own.

It it can't be fixed with glue and sawdust - it's not worth fixing.
