November 9, 201114 yr  Got the top completed tonight.  Also the first coat of stain. first a scrubbing down by Great Neck.and a smoothing down by another plane.  setting up to bread board the top.  That is almost all the dado blades I've got, sitting there. Width of cut was 3/4".    I had one more 1/16" chipper I could have put on.  Clamps also helped hold things down. And now a shot of that stain.  First coat, mind you, and yes there are a few spots I missed.  'and may the road raise up to meet ye'

November 9, 201114 yr Author  Try again, computer REAL sloooooww this morning.  A few that didn't get posted last night:this is my dado set-up.  I buried a bit of the one blade in the wooden fence.  Yes, I can get as wide as a dado can on this saw, in fact, I still had enough room for one more 1/16" chipper.and a look at the back side. yep, I missed a few spots, get them later.    Still need some hinges, another finish coat of stain, and a few coats of varnish.   Be about 20 hours all together.   I wonder what Norm would say....  'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
November 13, 201114 yr Author Was out at the shop tonight, and was bringing in the last of that old barn wood.   What IS left at the site is only fit for a woodburner.  While dropping off the boards at the shop, I also started to de-nail them, cut them down to an easier to use length, and get them ready to use.   I also put on a heavy coat of varnish on this little box.    I always put a heavy first coat on, then I go about smoothing things down.   That way, I don't worry about "sand thrus".    Varnish made some of the figure come alive....  'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
