November 14, 201114 yr Good Morning Friends,We all know that looking for dovetails in drawers show desired appealing craftsmanship however not everyone can cut dovetails even if they have a machine or jig to make them with a router so they result to ordering custom made dove tails. What draw backs do you see in this method of getting them?
November 14, 201114 yr Not near as much fun. Of course, my shop is ONLY for fun.  Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
November 15, 201114 yr Author Good morning Fellows,Having a dovetail jig does not make a person more skilled at making them but does allow them to make some with less cost than if he/she were to order custom made drawers. Custom made drawers are not cheap.Since most woodworkers are doing it as a hobby they seldom even use dovetails at all but use interlocking connections when making drawers for the ease of doing them. I have a dovetail jig but don't use it because I enjoy making then by hand to keep my skills up when doing them for clients.
