November 20, 201114 yr After I got the brushes at the point of ready for finish, i decided I'd work on trying to make an ornament, but i really wasn't sure what I wanted to make. After rounding the stock which is a small piece of Amboyna Burl, I started to make a cut on one end in a bead like fashion. I'm lucky I chose the end that I did to make that first cut because low and behold, there was a recess cut on the opposite end to true up the blank to the inserted tube. I instantly thought "you lucky dog, I'm going to make a bell out of this." So that is what i set to do. Â Here it is in the pre sanding stage, I'll have to work on it more later because I need to lay down for a while. I wanted the bell just a bit wider but the limit on stock size prevented that. i'll post the finished item later. Â Â Charles

November 21, 201114 yr Charles, It looks wonderful. Welcome back to the world of turning!  Can't wait to see the finished product. SQ It it can't be fixed with glue and sawdust - it's not worth fixing.

November 23, 201114 yr Maybe you could use a pen mill/barrel trimmer to remove the extended brass.Charles Nicholls said: Well as luck would have it, my hands are indeed steady enough to cut the first tiny part (about 1/4 inch) it's not quite shaped as well as i hoped but it works   AND THEN  Mr Murphy and his law decided to rear their ugly little heads  Yep you guessed it, that tube sitting there was pushed out when I tapped the first part in!  So rather than mess it up any further, I'll just wait to get the parts I need from PSI around the 1st.  To be continued  P.S, The wood sitting there to the right is the same wood I made the part from which is curly maple.
