November 21, 201114 yr I've had some odd things handed to me in church but this morning I had a weird experience. A good friend and fellow woodworker handed me a Parrter Cable 3X27 belt sander. He wants it sold on EBay and the profits donated but I know very little about it or what it is worth. Looks like a 1930's vintage and the beautiful maroon dust bag is still on it and it is nice and shiny. Anyone know what I should ask for it? Oh yeah, it runs like a top. If y'all need pics I think I could make that happen. Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
November 21, 201114 yr Ron, I might be interested, can you post pics please? I would not know what you might price if for though. John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker

November 21, 201114 yr Ron, You will be starting John down the slope of old tool ownership. John once you start to slide down the slope it's mighty hard to stop, and the bottom's out of sight. I find that price is what a buyer is willing to pay, and the seller is willing to take for an item. So it would seem that what is fair to both would apply in a situation such as this. Just my thoughts. Regards, Larry

November 21, 201114 yr This sounds like one my Dad had back in the 50's. Worked like a champ then and now my son has it and still uses it almost daily. It's too big for my uses so he has it.Ken Rasmussen said:Does the front end look like a locomotive? PM sent as well My job is to give my kids things to discuss with their therapist

November 21, 201114 yr WOW! Wonder what my 40's and 50's screw drivers would bring? I'd even clean the duct tape off the handles if it would help.   Gene 'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
November 21, 201114 yr Author I just picked this thing up and realized how "manly" men were back in the day. It takes two men, a boy and a good truss to carry this thing. Here's a couple of photos. Looks like it is a Porter Cable Take About. For the record, my wife wasn't around when I took the picture. Notice that it is sitting on her oak table without a pad under it.  Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
November 21, 201114 yr The price is what someone is willing to pay and the seller is willing to accept. I paid $50 for the last one I bought, which was basically sight unseen, and was told in running condition. I later found it had a broken drive chain. I have seen these go for outrageous prices on ebay, which in my opinion is stupid. It is a sander and this particular model is readily available just about everywhere, I see them quite frequently, but most people think they are worth a fortune because they are old. November 27, 201114 yr Author Well gang, I'm taking offers. If you make an offer it will go to the actual owner for approval. If we don't get what he wants it will be going to EBay. Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
