November 25, 201114 yr Thursday was a great day being with family and getting stuffed. A time to sit down and look around and give thanks for all of the blessings we have. We have been so blessed this year and I am so thankful. Black Friday started a bit too early for me. LOML had to be at work at 2:45am so we were up at 1:00 for her to get ready. I can't believe all of the people that are out at that time of the morning. After she was there I went back to bed. Today I am working on a few projects around the house and starting a few things in the shop. I have about five more windows to get changed out and the weather is nice here today so I am hoping to get them all out and changed. Cold weather will be on the way. I have one more Craft show left for the year and it is next Friday. I sold almost all of my cutting boards at the show last weekend so I have got to get some cut out and in the process today. While they are drying in the clamps, I'll work on the windows. And as time permits I will be doing some serious shop cleaning. When the last show is over I have plans to do a lot of work in revamping the shop. This winter will be spent building cabinets and storage in the shop. So here we are Black Friday, what is one you woodworking, project agenda? John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
November 25, 201114 yr Putting up the Christmas lights My job is to give my kids things to discuss with their therapist
November 25, 201114 yr Hanging with the family today as the "In-Laws" will be heading home to Yuma, AZ tomorrow. I will get some work done in the garage as I have to so the final sanding on 4 more of the Children's Rocking Chairs. I have a craft show next Saturday December 3rd which I hope will do well as all the proceeds go to my wife for her Christmas gift shopping. I have sold 7 cutting boards over the past couple of weeks but I have enough inventory to do ok at the show. I finally got 1 rocking chair painted up to go into my wife's classroom and will also use it as a sample at the craft show along with another chair that I will be spraying some finish on. I sell the chairs "Unfinished Only" as there are just too many different ways that people want to do them and it is a headache to do custom finishing. Here is the rocking chair for my wife's classroom. It was done in 4 bright colors which works out well for her kids. I used brush on primer that I had in the shed and then used 5 cans of spray paint as I ran out of blue paint with one more coat to go on one side of a side piece. But I put the paint on pretty thick as it will get a lot of abuse. I also found that with the added thickness of the paint, I had to use a rubber mallet and a piece of scrap wood to pound the locking key in to lock the chair together. For future reference I will have to do a little bit of tapering of one face of the locking key with the sander before I paint it to make it easier to instal it. November 26, 201114 yr Like Ken, I got a weekend full of Christmas Lights! This Monday is a mandatory day off work for me, otherwise known as furlough, so I'll work on the cabinet job for our college to make up for lost hours at work. The following weekend hopefully I'll wrap up the cabinets and get paid! This weekend is a weekend for family though, no work, no obligations.John you sure sell a whole lot of cutting boards! November 27, 201114 yr Author That is a great looking finish on the chair. You are also correct, there are an unlimited number of ways it could be finished and if you had some there, they would want it in the combination you didn't have.Allen Worsham said: Hanging with the family today as the "In-Laws" will be heading home to Yuma, AZ tomorrow.
