Well folks, I got the machine up and running for you to see. Take a gander and tell me what yall think. I think it is without many problems. We already determined the motor needs bearings, and while we have it all broken down, we are going to just go ahead and replace every bearing in the machine per Ken's suggestions. So, take a look and let me know what you think. All opines and critiques are welcome.

It's a keeper John,

After a good cleaning up and lube the recoil will loosen up. So now you have Old-Time machine number one in your restoration lineup. You are now on your way to becoming an OWWM addict. Our (The OWWM guys ) job is done we've converted another member! Grin.gif

I think that the switch mounting needs to go. As you mentioned there is no belt adjustment with the conduit in the way. The motor does stop fairly quickly, I think its a combination of things. One being the belt, the spindle bearings may also be dry but the motor bearings are definitely dry. My guess is that if you leave the press running for awhile the end bells will get a little more than warm. As for the quill return a good cleaning in mineral spirits and readjust the spring and you should see a great improvement. After you measure the runout write it down for later reference, I will be interested to see what the runout is after bearing replacement in the spindle and quill. It also looks like a good candidate for electrolysis too. Start spraying all the hardware with PBlaster or Kroil now and give it a chance to work before taking it all apart.

Thanks Larry! Yep, number one here, I hope to get started on it in a month after the dust settles for the holiday season.

Ken, when you say start spraying the hardware, are you talking about everything that is steel?

Good looking machine. It should look fantastic after some cleaning and painting. I agree with Ken you need to find a better switch arrangement. I cant wait to see it all cleaned up, great score John!

Thanks Mike! Speaking about great score, your plane is on its way! Once you get it, what you say we fire up a little discussion on care use and tuning up?

Sounds good to me John and thanks for shipping it so soon and giving me the opportunity to own it! If you can PM the tracking number. I can't wait to see it and get started tuning and restoring it. It should make for a good discussion and learning tool.

All of the nuts and bolts

Nice find John. You aren't too bad in the video either. I think you may have found a couple of new fields to explore.
