December 7, 201114 yr Check out our updated "American Made Tools Page". Where you can find high quality tools and supplies made here in the USA and Canada.Once there, feel free to leave comments at the bottom, if you see a manufacturer we left out, please tell us about it!We have zero relationships with any of these companies, we don't get a thing if you purchase from them. What we do get, is an opportunity to help our American Manufacturer and small business, the heart of our economy.John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
December 7, 201114 yr Others probably saw this one the other night too, but this guy built a house with all American made products. And it talks about how many jobs would be created if everyone just bumped their American made use by 5%.http://abcnews.go.com/Business/Economy/made-america-blueprint-creating-jobs/story?id=14719487There's a link there to his list of supplies that he used.
December 7, 201114 yr I saw that Roy. Do you know if they had the list of companies posted on their Web site? I don't remember them saying that at the end of the show.John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
December 8, 201114 yr I haven't checked the list yet but plan to. They claim that the house only cost a couple percent more using all US built stuff, so that doesn't seem too bad. I'd guess that the main problem would be easily getting ahold of the stuff and not having to special order it in. Just running into a big box store is just so convenient. We're supposed to be closing tomorrow on a house in Ohio, so I may soon be into the remodeling business again. Not really looking forward to going there and camping out for a month or so to get everything ready for the wife to make the move, but I suppose it's the only way to get it done.Â
December 9, 201114 yr Author Roy I have heard of similar stories, there was a news episode on awhile back, they furnished and entire home with American Made Furnishings and then a home with Chinese or foreign made furnishings and the home with the American Furnishings was actually a bit less if not the same. And the over all appearance of the home was obviously nicer, fabrics straight and no wrinkled seams, wood products of a superior grade, etc etc. There is a lot of mythology going on that America does not make anything and that when we do it's expensive, poppy cock!John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
