December 15, 201114 yr About a month ago my daughter in law asked me to built her a set of maple tray tables. What began as an easy project turned into a bit of a pain  but now they're finished. Yeah!! And just in time for Christmas festivities.  She wanted a satin finish so they're not as shiny as I like but hey, they're hers. December 15, 201114 yr Author Thanks Allen. The whole project had a ton of wait time. I had to order the roto hinges and it took 9 days to get them from Florida. It put the whole project behind. The panels didn't want to glue flat and I actually made 6 to get 4 good ones. I do have 2 15 X 20 slightly bowed cutting boards though. Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
December 15, 201114 yr There you go Ron! When the world gives you lemons, make cutting boards. I have had those kinds of projects before. They can be very frustrating when in the midst of them. December 15, 201114 yr Wow, Ron you are the table man. Those turned out great. I love them. Nice look and the finish is awesome. I love the look of the maple. And you did a nice rack to hold them in also. That is so nice. She will be excited. You did sign then didn't you?And while I am looking at that tree, I think I see an nice big package for me. Must be something REAL nice.John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

December 16, 201114 yr They look pretty danged good to me Ron, I love the grain on the tops, very nice, and no doubt easy to maintain and keep clean. So, for the durable finish, what did you use on these?John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
December 16, 201114 yr Author She wanted poly so I gave her poly. It is durable when you have two sons.Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
December 16, 201114 yr Author Thanks Randy. They are indeed sturdy. The legs are 1 1/4" wide as opposed to the 7/8" ones you buy at Kohls etc. I'm guessing there's a set in the future for my wife becasue she commented on how much sturdier they were than the ones we have..Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
December 16, 201114 yr Nothing wrong with a good poly finish. It is durable.Ron Dudelston said:She wanted poly so I gave her poly. It is durable when you have two sons.Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks

December 16, 201114 yr Beautiful!I really like the "catches" that capture the leg on the underside of the top.Lew
