December 18, 201114 yr Ok here is the pen that I started work on a couple days ago with the odd colored wood. Since I am using 2 part epoxy anymore for pens instead of CA, they take longer to finish but I think the result is a lot better in the long run. I'd still like to know what wood this is but I can't find it in any listings anywhere, it has a definite green tint to it with a really spicy odor similar to oregano Who knows maybe ts an odd type of weed stalk LOL I'm kidding of course, it doesn't smell that way anyhow Thanks for looking. December 24, 201114 yr Ok. I did a bit of digging and the wood is "Argentine Lignum Vitae". I bought the wood at Rockler some years back when I was doing a lot of turning. I did a few pens out of it and some small bowls and they turned out very nice. It had a distinct smell to it and had a wide range of coloration from brown to yellow to an olive green.http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=18575&gclid=CIm9pPa7ma0CFasaQgodhmhtmAAllen WorshamCorona, CAallenworsham@earthlink.nethttp://www.awcreationsandwoodcrafts.com'Graze in every man's field, but always give your own milk' J. January 7, 201214 yr Charles, I drill all of my pens on the lathe without using a chuck to hold the material. Put a drill chuck in your headstock with the bit and a plain or bearing center in the tailstock. Mark the centers and punch with an awl. Hold one end on the center in the tailstock and drill the other end by feeding the tailstock. You can hold it with pliers if needed. Flip it over and drill from the other end if needed. Dan Coleman
