Scrolling on the Bandsaw.

Featured Replies

As you have already guessed from past posts I love kitchen utensils. I found this pattern on woodstore.net on the wood magazine site.  Inexpensive and a downloadable pattern.

This pattern was the first time I have used a bandsaw for anything other than resawing or cutting wood.  I learned how to change the bandsaw blade from a 1/2" to a 1/4 inch blade Grin.gif, glued on the pattern, and cut away.

Scrolling on the bandsaw is just like scrolling on the scroll saw except the blade is considerably sharper and it cuts thicker wood.  It's great fun and very easy.

The pattern has three different tools - a spatula, saute tool, and a pie server.  Haven't tried the pie server yet, but plan to cut up some cherry and start making sets as soon as I figure out how to lay the saute tool pattern out correctly.  The pattern's directions weren't clear to me and I believe the saute tools I cut out are all left handed due to the way I attached the pattern.  Anyone else agree that the saute tool is left handed??????   One spatula is also left handed, but that was done on purpose.

If you haven't tried bandsaw scrolling you are missing out.  As I cut out the pieces, I used clear packaging tape to keep the pieces together until the cutting was done.  Per the instruction, I cut out the top pattern first, and then the side profile.

Flat spatulas are now a thing of the past in this workshop.  From now on my spatulas will have real angles which I'm thrilled about.

Kitchen tools are not quite done yet.  Have the final sanding to do and will add my USP grade mineral oil and 100% beeswax finish to them.  But was so excited about this process, I couldn't wait to share it with everyone.

Woods used for these items were walnut, maple, cherry, and the one spatula was a maple, walnut combination.  Thanks for looking.

Happiness is wood chips flying!

Very nice Sue113.gif

I'll have to give this a try once I get my bandsaw resto-modded.

Have a Great Holiday Season!

Regards,

Larry

Well right or left handed, they all look good to me. I don't saute, so I wouldn't have any idea of the difference. LOL.

Great job on those and thanks so much for sharing them. I see may wooden utensils in your kitchen in the future.

I'm going to have to try that out. LOML likes to use wood spatulas and spoons.

Greg,

Thanks for the nice comment.  Thinking I will make both - right and left and let the customer decide which one will suit their needs.  Grin.gif

LOML = Love Of My Life = Wife or in your case it could mean Husband.

Arlin,

Thanks.  These are quick and easy projects to make and I think the patterns are well worth the money.  I did recently cut out a right handed saute tool, so they are now available right handed or left handed.  Grin.gif

You are doing just a wonderful work and also trying new things.

My oldest daughter said today she wants me to make her a large salad bowl and 8 smaller ones with the utincils to go with it.

So I will now do them on the bandsaw per your instructions.
