December 25, 201114 yr I purchased these kits a little while back and was looking to give the boys an extra gift. While I was working in the shop today I decided to give it a try to turn these. First antler pens I have turned. These were not the biggest antlers, but I got enough to turn them. The real challenge was getting a piece straight enough to drill a straight hole through them. So here they are. They will be wrapped up and given as gifts. Â Merry Christmas! John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
December 25, 201114 yr Author Thanks Charles. These were the first of this kind I had done. They were pretty straight forward. I think the guys will like them since they are all hunters. So you got some toys on the way, do tell.John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

December 29, 201114 yr I like the way antlers look when they're done, but hate the smell while doing them. Nice looking pens John.
December 29, 201114 yr Author I agree with you and I think the smell is worse when you are drilling them than when you are turning.D. Kennedy said:I like the way antlers look when they're done, but hate the smell while doing them. Nice looking pens John.
December 30, 201114 yr Very Nice pens, John. I mke and sell several of these myself. I make mine using real rifle casings and Bullets for the nibs. They are easy to make. As far as drilling your hole in the antler, I drill mine on the lathe, it is easier to control the location of the hole drilling on the lathe.
December 30, 201114 yr Author I started to drill those on the lathe Keith, but for some reason I decided to do it at the drill press.Do you tap the end for the transmission to screw into or do you use a different transmission?JohnJohn MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
