December 26, 201114 yr Got some time to spend with my Son In Law today and he wanted to learn to turn pens. So after the gift opening we went to the shop to get him into the pen turning addiction. He has caught on pretty well. He needed a couple of gifts for some friends so I helped him to turn six pens to help him out. After just a little instruction, he was off and turning. Here is my WWP pen turner (note his shirt). I'll post some pictures of his pens in a little while. John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

December 26, 201114 yr John, thanks for the photo of a really really cool moment in your shop. For me personally this is a very special picture, not only is he learning a really cool art, but where he comes from in life being a Wounded Warrior is really profound for us. As this is why we exist as a website, we exist for veterans like your son-in-law. Thank you so much for sharing a part of your day with us John, and a very special part at that. Now my next question is, when does he come aboard!!!!!!John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
December 26, 201114 yr Author Soon I hope John. We are trying to get him setup so he can have a few tools and get going. He put himself through a real marathon last night turning six pens in an evening. But hey repetition is the best way to learn a new task. He has visited the site, so I will help him get signed on here real soon.John Morris said:John, thanks for the photo of a really really cool moment in your shop. December 26, 201114 yr Author Larry they were his first ones, well one through six. It is easy to be a good teacher when you have someone that wants to learn.Larry Buskirk said: John, If those are his first pens, he had a good teacher! December 26, 201114 yr Author Greg, Hummm, I didn't think about that. We may just have to find another lathe and run two at a time. Or maybe I can just get him to turn my pens now, yea that might work. Thanks for the complements.Greg Aksdal said:John, those look great, do you think you'll be able to get him away from the lathe long enough for you to use it again?Greghttp://www.thesawdustfactory.net/
