December 30, 201114 yr Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has dealt with a dust/air cleaner like this one? http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/0/7332/Jet-Air-Filtration-System-Model-AFS1000B.aspx If so, is it quiet enough to not wake up the neighbors next door? I really don't want to have to go with the box fan and trash bag routine, but if I can't find anything more suitable, I may have to. I can't afford it right now anyway, but if I ever can, I'd like to get one, but it can't be waking up the neighbors either. December 31, 201114 yr Charles, it depends of what your requirement are. This type of air cleaner (if you already knew this then tell me so) is made for picking up fine dust particles throughout your work environment. It is usually mounted on the ceiling and is used to circulate air through your area and pick up the fine dust that your main large capacity dust collector misses. It is "In addition of" not to be used solely. Are you trying to pick up the chips and larger dust that comes off your lathe?John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
December 31, 201114 yr Great Charles, then you know it's use and intended purposes, just checking. Yep, by all means that unit you are looking at will work great for the area you are working in and it will trap fine dust particles. This is the stuff that makes its way into your lungs. I noticed in one pic a long time ago you were wearing a dust mask but as you well know, that just doesn't cut it completely, so in my opinion your barking up the right tree with the filtration system. Charles Nicholls said: No i'm only worried about the fine stuff that I am breathing in so this i think is what I need, The stuff that falls to the floor i can get with a vacuum cleaner. Yea i saw where it said that it can be hung from the ceiling or set on a workbench. i intend it to sit on my old lathe stand that I am using as a wood rack now and nothing else.
