2012 what new skill will you add?

Featured Replies

So when you look back on 2011 and evaluate where your woodworking skills are, what are you looking to add or challenge yourself to do in 2012. Is there something you would like to learn or try this year you have not done up to this point.

For me I really want to do a project with some veneer in it. I have wanted to do that for a while, but just haven't made the jump. I think this year I want to give it a try.

What about you, what are you wanting to try this year?

John, as you and I have talked about this. The skill I want to learn and get really good at is producing quality woodworking videos for our members here. I am very excited about this new adventure. Stand by for some corn ball videos in the next couple months!

Now direct woodworking related skills. Hand cut joinery. I really want to create beautiful hand cut dovetails. I have cut them before, but I am not very proficient at them. I would say I am about at a 50 percent success level with DT's. I want to increase that to 90!

Great question. If I pick up a lathe I would love to learn turning. But in the advent of not getting one, I would like to master sliding dove tails all by hand.

God bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.

A couple of things I'd like to try my hand at this year are making a couple of cutting boards, some small boxes, and maybe a flag display case or two.

Turning bowls and platters is where I'd like to gain knowledge. right now I'm a scrape and alot of sanding type turner for items as simpe as a rolling pin. Currently it works for me but I need to improve on it.

John M., Any video you bring us will be quality. I'm sure everyone is as anxious to see them as I am.

Organizing my time to be able to complete a project in a timely manner would be a skill I could use.

Right now, it's about 20 degrees out in the shop, not counting a nice breeze a-blowing through as well.   Don't think much work will get done out there.     Maybe about March.....    When things warm up enough for glue-ups out there, I'll get back to work.     Two months to plan things out.... BTW, what IS a plan, anyway?Grin.gif
