January 14, 201214 yr I cut this the other night out of some black walnut. The pattern came from Sam Keener's book 128 compound cut patterns. Greghttp://www.thesawdustfactory.net/

January 14, 201214 yr Greg, that is very unique, it reminds me of those books that were popular in the 80's with paintings of dual dimensional images, like the stairs that seemed to go up and down and were upside down but not. Great project Greg, I love it John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker

January 15, 201214 yr Author John when you buy one you'll need to find some more time to enjoy it which as busy as you stay might not be easy John Moody said: Very nice. January 15, 201214 yr I know, that is one reason I don't already have one. But I sure like the possibilities it would open up for me.John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
January 15, 201214 yr Author Your right John, they are kind of an optical illusion. John Morris said: Greg, that is very unique, it reminds me of those books that were popular in the 80's with paintings of dual dimensional images, like the stairs that seemed to go up and down and were upside down but not. January 15, 201214 yr Author Wayne this was one of the easier patterns, might as well start off with an easy one right . The patterns all call for 1 3/4 thick wood too, which pretty much maxes my saw out. Like anything if you follow his directions they really aren't that hard, just look like it, which is probably why you don't see more people doing them. Wayne Mahler said: Greg Seen that book, and was wondering how it worked and turned out. January 21, 201214 yr GREG.........HELP!!!!!The book came today. I'm pretty dense but I ought to be able to visualize these things. I CAN'T!I read the instructions several times. Looked at the photographs and the patterns. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how the two patterns can be cut from one block and look like the pictures. Can you explain to this old man?Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
January 21, 201214 yr Author Gene, I thought pretty much the same thing before I actually cut one. Once you cut it there will be a gap between the two parts, but the base will be solid. If you look real close at some of the pictures you can almost tell, wish I had the book here but it's at home. You almost have to hold it at eye level to see both the images because you are using parts of both images to make the one image on each side. I've probably made this clear as mud but hopefully it will help. Go ahead and cut one and you will see what I mean. Looking forward to seeing it. Gene Howe said:GREG.........HELP!!!!!The book came today. I'm pretty dense but I ought to be able to visualize these things.
