January 26, 201214 yr  A couple more showed up needing so re-hab work.    Something called a Billings/Coes:This is AFTER a good 10 hour soak in Simple Green (with a brass brush stir) followed by a few soaks in WD40.   The adjustor knob turns freely, NOW.    The screwdriver has a new handle.  It's old brittle PLASTIC (YUK) handle had just crumbled away.  Seems to fit my hand a little better.  Need to find a "finish" for the old Monkey Wrench.   What you see is just bare (naked?) steel.   About the same colour as an old Brown Bess musket barrel.  Maybe soak it in oil? (NOT BLO, though) As for the "main" re-hab:This also got the Simple Green soak.   It will get a nice gloss black paint job later.Same with this bit of hardware. Like that Bell?  I'll also re-paint this a gloss black. I'll leave the bare metal edge bare though. As for the body..Looks like I MIGHT have a little inlay work to do.  Maybe, we'll see. There is just a small chip out in front of the mouth.   Not a real problem.Frog area?  Original screws, so this is how I keep a-track of them. They are steel ones, to boot. I'll sand the whole body down later, and decide on a finish for it.    What to put on a wood body?  'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
January 26, 201214 yr Steve have you checked the flatness of the sole of the plane? Great work buddy!!!! Looking good. What kind of paint are you using???John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
January 26, 201214 yr Author  Sole was jointed a year ago, still flat.   Rattle can for paint.  Might be just good old Rustoleum Black.    As for the "Hog Leg", that would make a good "Home Defense Tool", right?'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
