I though I would start this and see how you all handle setting up to spray finishes on your projects. I have a two car garage, 24 x 32 that is dedicated to my shop. I would love to have room in there to have a dedicated spray booth, but I am already pushing at the walls now. So I was wondering how you setup to spray in your shop.

When I was working on the Cedar Chest and got to the point I needed to spray on the Shellac I setup my temporary spray booth. I went to Wally World and purchased six clear plastic shower curtains at about 2.99 per curtain I think. Then picked up some cheap plastic rings to attach the curtains with. I put the rings onto the rails for the garage door and they hang to within about 18" or so to the floor. I have a piece of 1/2" conduit that I lay across the top of the garage door rails at the back end and put the rings on that to close up the back of the spray booth. I open the garage door and place a box fan at the bottom of the door to pull the air through the shop and out. I also take some clear plastic and lay across the top of the rails to close in the top so I don't have any over spray getting back into the shop area.

Here are a couple of shot of what I did. I had already finished and was taking things down when I thought about taking the pictures but you get the idea from the description above.

By using the clear plastic I still get a lot of the light from the shop, but I also have a couple of the spring clamp halogen lights I clamp up inside on the center rail of the garage door opener so I can have good light when I spray.

 I pretty much only spray either Shellac or Water base Varnish. So this is how I setup to spray in my shop. When I am finished I can just pull the curtains together, take a long piece of Velcro and wrap it around them and let them hang in a corner out of the way. Only takes a few minutes to setup and pull open or close when I need it.

posted my temp spray booth before but I'll do it again for this new thread.

I do basically the same as John except I use reinforced clear tarp material hung on hooks spaced to match the grommets on the tarps.  I've also added a fan it the garage door window. 

Im thinking about the same thing.  In my shop addition i plan on having some roll down clear plastic temporary walls that will allow me to have a spray booth and still use it for additional space for other uses.  I have a window in the area and i also am thinking on installling a fan that came out of a chicken coop i think.

I need to do this, big time! I have never done a spray booth, all my spray finishing has been outdoors, and yes, I get gnats wings and other stuff in there sometimes. Thanks John for the show and tell on this. You got my creative thoughts on how to do this flowing.
