February 15, 201214 yr Between the bad weather and an endless list of "things" to do I haven't been working in the shop much... until today. I managed to make a pair of pens and finished turning the bottom on a bowl I turned a couple of months ago (I finally got my Cole jaws in). The bowl won't be finished for a few more days. I'm waiting on the teak Oil to dry before I can buff it out,but here are the pens.  Black Titanium and Platinum plated twist pen on a Sycamore barrel   Black Titanium and Platinum plated click pen mounted on a purple with white swirl acrylic barrel. February 15, 201214 yr Donnie that is a very nice pair of pens. I especially like the Sycamore. I do like the acrylic and I have turned that purple and white. It has a nice color.Nice pen kits also. Excellent all the way around.,John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
February 15, 201214 yr Good looking finish and kit choice. The Sierra black Ti kit is one of my favorites however the last click version I assembled the click mechanism wasn't as crisp feeling as the Vertex from PSI. Have they improved it?
February 15, 201214 yr Author Mike... the click mechanism works fine on this one, but I do not make many of them (any brand) due to issues that some have had. It seems like I do remember some discussion (somewhere) quite a while back that mentioned the springs in this particular sires of kits being upgraded, and I think the same for the CSUSA kits too. Of course, we are dealing with mass produced parts from you know where, so maybe it's as much a matter of luck, good or bad, that determines the outcome.
February 16, 201214 yr If you get a click pen kit that feels a little soft, you can stretch the spring a little bit by just pulling on it with your fingers and that will improve it a lot. Or at least it did for the ones that I have made.
