A NEW router

Featured Replies

Store bought at that!   Picked up a router at Sears.     A Craftsman 2hp, 12 amp combo kit.      It has a fixed base, AND a plunge base.     It has both a 1/4", and a 1/2" collet..   A three LED work light.     Also among the goodies, an edge guide WITH a circle  adapter.     Dust collection adapters for both bases.   AND, a bag to carry it all around with.     This router is all metal, the only plastic is the clear parts.    Isn't tax refunds great?Grin.gif

Toy time.  Tax refunds are great if I'd get mine.  Oh well, probably just as well.  It's going back in the bank anyway.

I'd just like to get a tax refund. Seems I am always sending them more and more.

 OK, so far:

It looks like it will take the bushing from PC to use in my PC Dovetail jig ( Yippeeee)

Downside alert:    to change a bit, one has to remove the motor from whichever base it is in.   This is the way to engage the shaft lock button.     Bummer!Tongue.gifTongue.gif

Upside to the downside:   Switching bases is fairly quick and easy.  no special tool is needed.

plunge base works nicely.    Included in the "kit" is a wrench for height adjustments while IN a router table.    I have the right insert in my homemade table, so this will work nicely.

Electronic feedback soft start.    Will have to "fire it up" when I go to the shop this weekend.     There are about six speed ranges to choose from, with a handy-dandy chart on the router itself.

BIG PLUS:    ALL METAL , No plastic in the motor, base, or other important areas.   Milled AL.    is used.     This baby is stout, and a bit heavy.

Dust collection:Tongue.gif    Weeeeeeell, kind of small outlets.  If you are flying big chips, it will plug up, NOW.

There is a green "Power ON" light that lets you know IF the router has power going into it.

There are three LED work lights, to light up your istakes, er work.    They might get a bit dusty in there, might be an area to keep clean.

So far, so good.  Know more this weekend,   I have a few plane totes to mill up....Grin.gif
