A question about counter tops!

Featured Replies

I have a laminate kitchen counter top that has lifted from the substrate in an are that's about 1' square.

As much as the wife would love to change the counter tops to granite I would have to say NOT! My instinct tells me to heat the area with an iron to loosen up the glue and then weight it down until it cools. Would this be the easiest and best way to cure this problem or is there a better way?

Heating is worth a try. I have done this before, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Mike

It may work. All depends on why it lifted and if any water got behind it. But I would agree to at least give it an attempt to repair.

Mike, is it an area in the middle of the top? Or is it at an edge area where you can see under it while it is lifted up?

Mike the heat might work, but that's not what she wants to fix it. Grin.gif

Better start looking at granite. 109.gif

It's towards the back of the counter top and I would have to remove the counter top to get at the lamination. I'll try the heat trick first. If that doesn't work I'll try a trick I've used on prop de-ice boots, drill a tiny hole in the laminate and inject adhesive into the de-laminated area and then press it into position and cross my fingers.

That's entirely possible John but I've done dumb things before and I see no reason to stop now...LOL.
