February 21, 201214 yr As you may have read, John asked me to be the moderator of the Wood Turners' Forum. Having never served in this capacity before, here's hoping you all will be gentle with me as I learn my way around. If you have questions, comments, concerns and/or suggestions, please let me know. The easiest way contact me would be by email at lewiskauffman@gmail.com. I also have Facebook, Twitter and Google+ accounts but don't live on any of those. As a former Vocational Instructor, I am always searching for tutorials, how-to's and informative articles. Maybe we can do something similar to John Moody's "It's Friday..." discussion by posting a Wood Turning Link Of The Week. What do you think? Please remember, being a self taught turner, there is a lot I don't know. But, if you ask me something I'll do my best to get you an answer.Lew-Time traveler. February 21, 201214 yr Lew, welcome to TPW during your first night as a host!!! We are so happy you accepted this position and John Moody and I are here if you need any help at all, though I highly doubt it! Looks like you have some pretty good turners on here already who I am sure will challenge your senses, and when I get my lathe hopefully soon, I'll challenge your patience!!! Thanks again Lew for being here in your new capacity. Now lets go make some shavings! John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Wounded Warrior Project and Homes For Our Troops
February 21, 201214 yr Lew, welcome aboard. Glad to have you as part of the team. I have seen your turnings and the tutorials you have posted and I think you work is awesome. I am self taught also, but you are certainly at a level well above my skills. I am excited to see what you will have to offer us.We are all here to assist if you need us.John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
February 21, 201214 yr Lew, first time and don't know what you are doing? What ever it is, you are doing a good job at it.
February 21, 201214 yr I love to turn as well and am always trying to incorporate turning into my work. I am self taught also and I find that my biggest issue is getting my tools properly sharpened. Especially my gouges. Anything you could share would be great and I look forward to your discussions. Adam WelkerRed Car Construction and Fine Woodworking

February 21, 201214 yr Lew,So glad the powers that be have chosen such a presence to moderate this forum. I am trying to get around so that i can do some turning myself and will probably need lots of advice. From what i have seen you are just the guy to ask. I find that some of the best teachers are the ones who taught themselves. So thank you for accepting this position, am looking forward to more of your great posts. And i would also like to thank the people who encouraged your choice.russNo greater Loves than God, Family, Friends, country, the sight of flying chips and the smell of saw dust.
