February 21, 201214 yr I'm a bit curious. There are lots of folks here that build and sell. Charles Nichols turns pens and sells, John Moody sells cutting boards (et al) but I'm wondering what everyone is making and selling in this stubborn economy. I'll start it off. I make flag cases, pocket watch displays and a few shadow boxes. Usually I sell on ebay but I prefer local shows because ebay fees are getting out of hand. Here's a couple of flag cases I sell. One oak and one cherry.  So, whatcha selling?  Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
February 21, 201214 yr In my Dept. last fall we had good luck with the ornaments, pet angels, mini birdhouses, and dream catchers. The portraits did'nt do good at all. I have some stuff listed on http://www.etsy.com/ , they charge twenty cents to list an item for 3 months, I've sold a few things over the last year. I also have some stuff listed on http://www.madeitmyself.com/ , haven't sold anything from here yet. They take I believe 3% of the final value. I agree Ebay's fees are getting outrageous for the small time seller, and as far as my items I've never had any real luck on Ebay, it has become more of a retail marketplace than anything. I also have a couple of showcases at work with some stuff in them. A lot of my sales come from word of mouth. Occasionally I do get a sale from Facebook. Greghttp://www.thesawdustfactory.net/

February 21, 201214 yr I do commission work mostly so I sell whatever my current client wants. I am currently building two nightstands to go with a headboard. That said, I really enjoy building woodworking benches and have sold two although they were commisions. I am building another now in my spare time and I will list it on Craigslist when I'm done. I display small boxes and book displays at my friends restaurant and I actually sell one from time to time. I have also taken an intetest in chairs after making 3 barstools for a friend. February 22, 201214 yr Ron, after watching my stuff on Etsy and just generally checking other shops out on there, two things I figured out were that to keep your items near the beginning of the listings is to list an item every few days, that way if someone sees an item they will probably check out your other items, the second thing is to add as many tags as possible too make your item be found easier in their search engine. Ron Dudelston said:Greg, I've never sold on Etsy but I did just set up an account. How's the traffic there? Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
February 22, 201214 yr I have sold a few items from my web site, but most of the sales have come from the craft shows I have done. They have generated orders for items people have seen at the shows. Cutting boards, cedar chest, pens, hand mirrors and several other items. I have also sold a few tables. Word of mouth and passing out business cards and just meeting people at the craft shows. February 22, 201214 yr First off those are beautiful flag cases Ron, great job.I have been hired for a couple jobs in the past few months building some cabinets for our college. And now I am working on getting that ol rocker finished up so I can get it off and make some money. I got a new lathe with my name on it if I sell it!After I get this rocker finished up I am going to get in on some cutting board action, and some small chests, we are going to make a run at the crafts fairs here in town. February 22, 201214 yr I'd like to sell some stuff. I have sold a few cutting boards, a small table, and some other stuff. Generally when I make something and my wife sees it she immediately thinks of someone that she wants to give it away to. I tried a few craft shows before Christmas, and sold a couple things, but my bin is pretty much empty now, she's given it all away. This remodel project has me all tied up now, hopefully someday I'll get a shop set up again and be able to make some more stuff. Â

February 22, 201214 yr I have given very few things away. That is the problem and not that I wouldn't like to, but where do you stop. You end up hurting someones feelings because they didn't get one and someone else did.It is hard to give it away if you are going to try to sell it.
