Sole was just as nasty:Sooo, I took it apart, and gave the handle a good cleaning:and worked on the sole.   gave the "black" parts a new coat of paintand worked on the blade and blade keeperafter the rust and dust were gone.  Metal has a swirly figure to it. The blade has no paint, at all.  Once everything had been re-worked, i put it back together, ready to go to worklooking good.  Don't know who made this spokeshave, but I do know who rebuilt it 'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
