A quick question for the turners

Featured Replies

Ever since i got the new lathe a few months backI have had just a bit of a problem with the tool rest bracket (for lack of the real name) not moving easily, there were times where it would work great, then other times it would barely budge at all. Well, i finally got tired of it and losened the nut on the bottom side to allow it to move more freely. Now i have 2 problems. First the nut will not stay tightened where I put it and 2 the tool rest bracket will not lock  down like it should.

Any ideas? Thanks :)ning-000-0001-33542-49.jpg?width=750

This website is new so it doesn't have much to it yet but you are welcome to take a look :)

I have a new VS Rikon lathe, and found that the tool rest tightening mechanism is kinda touchy to adjust.

Try this.  Tighten up the tool rest just a little, then spread some fine oil on the bed rails.  And, make sure you fully open the lock lever.

I would suggest tighting the nut of the bottom and then sand down the bed and wax it with some car wax. This is what I have done to mine to fix the problem.

My Delta lathe did this, too. I waxed the surface of the bed with Johnson's Paste Wax- same stuff I use on the tables of my saws and planer. Seemed to fix the problem for me. As Larry said, I think I would re-tighten the nut a little, too.

Lewis I had the same thing with my jet and waxed the ways with past wax, no sanding needed just wax it frequently.
