The Ultimate Compliment for a Woodworker

Featured Replies

I have been working on my rocker lately and I posted a topic here showing my shapely arms that I executed with allot of sweat and patience. I also posted the photo on our Face Book wall, and I received a compliment that made me feel like I had really arrived to a new level.

My teacher and mentor Hal Taylor, the man who taught me how to make these rockers, left me the following message.

"Looking good! The arms look better than mine! Maybe I'll copy you."

He then backed up that statement again saying he was very serious about incorporating my form into his arms on his chairs. Talk about an ego booster!!!

They say that being copied is the greatest form of flattery in the world of arts and crafts. Well this is the first time for me, and I can assure you all, it's true! I am flattered beyond words.

That's a great compliment from anyone. But, from Hal himself is fantastic.

The arms really are pretty cool. Hal knows talent when he sees it.

You really did do a great job on the chair John. This is one of those times where I wish I had a full shop and a way to lift heavier wood, so I can make furniture when I want. :) Great Job!

Your right Gene, any compliment from a fellow woodworker or customer is just great to receive. I love em all, we all need a little ego kick now and then don't we?

Goes to show you learned well, when the teacher wants to use the students methods.
