March 1, 201214 yr It's been a while since I've posted anything, but here is one project I feel is worthy of sharing. I finally got around to buffing out a little Hackberry bowl a few days ago. I finished turning it back on the 14th of this month but with all of the humidity, I had to allow some extra time for the Teak Oil finish to dry. The wood is Hackberry and measurments are just over 6" wide at the top and 1-1/4" deep. This piece has some fiddleback, spalting, and a nice bullseye which gives it some additional character.   Â

March 1, 201214 yr That is one nice looking bowl. I love the grain pattern and the highlights of it. I got a couple of pieces of hackberry a few months back. I got to get some of it in the shop and give it a turn. Did the teak oil give it the darker color as hackberry is normally pretty white?Very nice finish. March 2, 201214 yr Author thanks all. John M... The teak oil will warm about anything up, but there is a lot going on there. I cut the wood about 4 years ago and threw it behind my shed for a year or so to spalt. I slabbed it out and the wood sat waxed for another year. This particular blank was roughed out last year and re-turned to this final piece this month.  The un-turned wood I have left is more yellow than the typical white.
