March 1, 201214 yr This call is made from a piece of Black Pearl Acrylic with a high polished aluminum band, and an Echo timber insert. BTW... I'm working out the kinks on my own inserts now and hopefully I'll be able to drop the acknowledgement of the Echo inserts from my posts by this spring. Â Â

March 1, 201214 yr I really like the shape of that call! I have made a couple of display calls lately and was attempting a shape similar to yours. I must say it is very pleasing. The aluminum band really contrasts well with the glossy black too. A question if you don't mind. How do you polish the bore? I have no problem getting the outside glossy, but polishing the bore is beyond me.I too use Echo inserts on my calls that are intended to hunt. However, lately I have made more calls intended for decoration. I turn a non functioning insert for those. I looked into a public jig but haven't bought one. I don't hunt or call so I would have to guess on tuning. For the price of a jig I can buy 40 Echos. I do know that if I intend to sell I need to turn my own inserts. Great Job. I really enjoy seeing your work.
March 1, 201214 yr Author Charles... thanks for the kind words. Greg,,, I got a nice clean/smooth bore on this one so I didn't bother polishing it out. As far as turning your own inserts is concerned, you might look into gutserts as a happy medium. You can still have a nice turned insert of your own design with the consistency of a pre-made insert. You'll still have to tune it tough. As far as the public jig is concerned, I just made my own jig out of a chunk of mahogany to play with until I get the insert I want and I'll have a custom jig made at that point. I'd be happy to talk with you in person if you want to... just message me.
