Pine Pens

Featured Replies

A couple of years ago I was out in the woods and noticed a piece of pine heartwood sticking out of a hole in the ground... it was all that was left of the tree that had otherwise rotted away. I through that little piece in a drawer of my tool box and forgot about it until a few days ago. Just for giggles I decided to cut into it, and after seeing the inside I decided to make a pen and was really pleased with the results. I made another one tonight with the last piece that was large enough to do anything with.

Very Nice looking pens. Pine wood is so underrated in my book. I have about 30 pen blanks of 200 year old long leaf yellow heart pine. And some of it has sap in it still. Makes a nice looking pen.

I do agree with pine being underrated in general. I have used old pine floor boards for some flat projects but I had never thought about turning any until now. My father-in-law has a bunch of pine knot for starting fires, and I think I'm going to get into the next time I'm over there and see what I come up with.

Donnie that is a great looking pen. That little piece of wood turned out really nice. Lots of character.

For anyone interested... I am going to be placing a pretty good sized pen kit order with Arizona Silhouette this coming week (Wednesday) and if anyone wants to get a few kits this would be a good opportunity for folks that don't turn a lot of pens to grab a few kits and get a little discount at the same time.

No money need to be exchanged up front. I will order them in and we'll get the money worked out after they arrive and I'll ship them out to you in flat rate boxes or boxed up inside of padded envelopes (whichever is appropriate). All I ask is that everyone take whatever they ask for when the shipment arrives. It is important to order kits and AA blanks that qualify for mix-and-match discounts.

There is a budget involved, so in the event there is a lot of interest in this,  I'll have a predetermined cut-off. You can message me for any details on that.

I don't have a lot of history here so for the sake of showing how I operate, this buy would work exactly like this one on another forum...  Acrylic Rod Buy.

Very nice work! Do you make the metal parts as well or just the wood?

That very nice looking wood on your pens. Do you usually look for hard wood for your pens or does it mater?

I'm getting into this a bit late but have you ordered any kits yet and can I get a few. This looks like a fun project.

I am a metal turner kind of guy but I should be able to cut some wood with metal cutting tools easy enough.
