March 7, 201214 yr A question arose this week concerning problems with CA glue as a finish. Unfortunately, my experience with this method of finishing is extremely limited and those limited experiences were less than successful. During Internet searches to locate an answer, it soon became obvious that there are about as many techniques for applying/using CA as there are pen turners. This was not at all helpful to the member asking the question. Even when searching for specific remedies for the encountered problem, a myriad of solutions- none exactly the same as the previous ones- were disclosed. My point being, with the seemingly unlimited knowledge available on the Internet, nothing can replace the first-hand knowledge of friends and acquaintances. That is where this Our Site shines through. We can ask a question and get an almost instant and honest response from someone we know. If we do not understand an answer, we can ask for clarification; without fear of ridicule or made to feel incapable by asking again. We can respond to a request with any knowledge, we may have, knowing it is accepted as a suggestion from a friend. When you read a discussion, do not hesitate to offer a suggestion, idea, or a direction that may lead to an increase in the awareness of us all. With the above in mind, here are two suggestions for inspiration. These turners push the envelope, creating some fantastic pieces. They even share their techniques in an effort to help us learn! First, the Australian turner Sam Shakouri- Check out all of Sam’s work. It is amazing!! Second, Joe Landon- http://joelandon.us/ Jo’s site was not working well at the time of this writing but you can see some of his work. His hollow forms are absolutely stunning.  Hopefully, next week my modified, homemade lathe duplicator will be finished and pictures posted. Please share with us your turning projects, jigs and any suggestions.    Lew Kauffman- Wood Turners Forum Host Time traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!

March 8, 201214 yr It certainly can be finicky, though I've had a good measure of success with it in my pen turnings, and it remains my favorite. What was the question and where?
