March 10, 201214 yr Hi all I need to get an id on these 2 pieces if possible. I'm told (without certainty), that the red is Paduak and the other is White Lignum but I have no clue and the person that gave me the red stick isn't sure either. Thanks all for the help. March 13, 201214 yr Charles, here is a picture of some Bubinga before it has any finish put on it that might help. Take a look at This one to see if it matches the lighter wood. John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
March 18, 201214 yr Haven't used that much Cocobolo but I read somewhere that it has a wide range of colors, often within the same piece.Lew Kauffman-Wood Turners Forum HostTime traveler. Purveyor of the world's finest custom rolling pins!
March 19, 201214 yr I bought a pack of pen blanks, at Woodcraft, and some of the blanks had a similar grain pattern.Charles Nicholls said: I read that too so the main question is, does it also have a wide range of grain patterns? To me, this smells exactly like Cocobolo when being turned, that's why I wonder, and it is pretty dense too. I have made a few hair pins out of this wood before and it shines up well but the grain is just not like any Cocobolo I have seen.Lewis Kauffman said: Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.nethttp://www.nichollswoodworks.comThis website is new so it doesn't have much to it yet but you are welcome to take a look
