Wood identification

Featured Replies

Hi all

I need to get an id on these 2 pieces if possible. I'm told (without certainty), that the red is Paduak and the other is White Lignum but I have no clue and the person that gave me the red stick isn't sure either.

Thanks all for the help.

Charles, here is a picture of some Bubinga before it has any finish put on it that might help.

ning-100-3410-32695-18.jpg?width=721Take a look at This one to see if it matches the lighter wood.

Haven't used that much Cocobolo but I read somewhere that it has a wide range of colors, often within the same piece.

I bought a pack of pen blanks, at Woodcraft, and some of the blanks had a similar grain pattern.

I read that too so the main question is, does it also have a wide range of grain patterns? To me, this smells exactly like Cocobolo when being turned, that's why I wonder, and it is pretty dense too. I have made a few hair pins out of this wood before and it shines up well but the grain is just not like any Cocobolo I have seen.
