March 14, 201214 yr I recently purchased about 250 BF of hardwood from a local millwork shop that was going out of business. I bought what I thought was all cherry for $1.75 a BF but after I sorted it today I found out that about half of it is sapele, a tropical hardwood that looks alot like mahogany. Beautful wood but I'm not sure what to build with it. It was a good deal because the sapele is selling for $6.50 a board foot retail. Oh well, cest la vie. Ron DudelstonSite HostAbove and Beyond WoodWorks

March 14, 201214 yr Sapele looks sort of like Mahogany but when finished, the grain has an almost iridescent look. Makes beautiful pens. The dark rolling pins I made are from Sapele.  Charles Nicholls said: I'm not familiar with that wood, I'll have to look it up great deal though Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.nethttp://www.nichollswoodworks.comThis website is new so it doesn't have much to it yet but you are welcome to take a look
