My first fret work

Featured Replies

This is my first attempt at fret work. It's from a free pattern from Steve Good at www.scrollsawworkshop.com

This was a lot of fun but a little tedious. It's a Potpourri Box made from walnut & hard maple. The lid is attached with rare earth magnets. Thanks for viewing!ning-dscn0117-32297-51.jpg?width=250

WOW Mike!!!!!
That turned out absolutely beautiful! Nice work and your first one? You gotta be kidding.

Now, the finish, what are you going to use?

Thanks John! I'll be using Danish oil hand rubbed.

Perfect!

Thank you Larry! I think I've built more projects in the short period of time that I've owned my scroll saw than any tool I've owned for that time frame. It's absolutely addictive and I'm having a ball.

What a wonderful piece of work. Love the maple walnut combo.

Thank you Charles & Russel. I am rather pleased with the combination. The magnets are held in place with 5 minute epoxy. I've never had them pop out.

I finished it with 4 coats of natural Danish Oil.ning-img-0373-32304-79.jpg?width=250ning-img-0374-32304-67.jpg?width=250

Wow just posted on your other post about seeing the finished piece, and here it is. Absolutely beautiful.

That is a nice looking piece Mike.  Keep up the good work.   JimGrin.gif

Mike, this looks great all the way around. I made a box a couple years ago using the rare earth magnets like this one, they are great to use as a catch.

Great workmanship Mike. I love the contrast and I appears you chose the right finish. Man you are really turning out the projects now.

Thanks all for your encouraging words!

For a "Master Carpenter", you did a mighty fine job of this fretwork.  Hard to believe it's your first.  We scrollers are going to watch out when you really get the hang of it.  Congrats on a fine project.

obtw - Steve Good is a great place for patterns
