March 19, 201214 yr  That old rusty handsaw, with the broken handle, that costs a whopping $2?  Yep, just about back to work, from a "Re-hab".   A "Before" photo firstUgly fellow, ain't he?   Right at the bottom corner of the blade, there is a stamped number, Disston did this to tell the ppi of the blade.  In this case " 5 1/2 ".   Needed a second saw to get a few extra sawnuts, as well.  Brass medallion say " DISSTON" above a keystone, with U.S.A. below it.   And now the rest of the story:with a glaze to cover the bare wood areas, awaiting a finish. Blade shined up nicely, as well.   Teeth will be filed "Rip" as soon as I can.  You can almost see the keystone etch on the blade. another look at the etchDISSTON & SONS        D8      Ready for work...... March 19, 201214 yr Great restore looks like it is ready for another lifetime of work.No greater Loves than God, Family, Friends, country, the sight of flying chips and the smell of saw dust.
March 19, 201214 yr Hey Steve, you da man! That turned out really nice man! I love it! Great work on the handle and I don't remember but is that a Disston medallion or an Eagle with Olive Branch?Your work restoring these old tools Steve is admirable. March 19, 201214 yr Author Disston Medallion, with the Keystone.    Both the medallion and the etch are the keystone.   I guess a shot of Gun Blue will bring out the etch better.   Working up on the "Donor Saw" next.    New, solid wood handle ( a glueup) and a pile of sawnuts.   The Broken Back saw handle supplied the add-on piece for the Thumbhole repair.  The new handle for that backsaw is made from black Walnut.    waiting on the finish to cure out, then a photo or two of that one.     'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
