California Considers Table Saw Safety Law

Featured Replies

YEA just what we need more government regulations and potential job losses when a government decides they need to protect us from ourselves. The saw stop technology is a great advance in tool safety but let the consumer decide if he needs it or not. It shouldn't be forced on someone that doesn't see the need to have it. Our craft is expensive enough and just like any object that has the potential to injure someone can be safe as long as you use it correctly and follow safety precautions.

I speak from experience. When I was younger I cut all of my fingers at the palm joint approx half way through the fingers. Luckily all I lost was 60% of the feeling in my left hand fingers. Why did this happen? Because I was in a hurry and didn't follow safe practices and it wasn't the saw manufactures fault it was my fault. Saws don't hurt people, people hurt themselves by complacency, inattention and unsafe practices.

Last night we received word that an ex employee of ours was killed at a Boeing plant while working on a 747 aircraft he was crushed by a flight control and I can just about predict that the accident investigation will reveal complacency, inattention and unsafe practices were the cause. So lets outlaw aircraft.

People that operate machinery need to accept responsibility for themselves. If a machine malfunctions and causes an injury then there is product liability that comes into play but if the product is misused then the injured party deserves whatever happened and that's just a fact of life. Act responsibly and be responsible for your own actions!

Further if they in act what they are looking at to go into place by 2015, it could be impossible for you to sell you old saws off. They would be outlaw or you could become liable for someone else if you sell it to them.

I agree with Mike the Saw Stop technology is great, but don't force it upon everyone.

I agree with you. I cut three of my fingers last yer on my table saw. 2 are missing flesh, and one was re-attached and now doing pretty good.Although my saw had an issue, that I found later and corrected, I still felt it was my fault. I also don't believe that the government should get involved with these types of issues. If this passes, we will be looking at a lot of other tools having to change also. Every knows and understand there is a certain risk in anything we work with. What would happen if you were sharpening a plane iron or a chisel and it slipped of the bench, cut through your shoe and you needed stitches? , Lopped off a toe?
