Curved Lid Jewelry Box Finished

Featured Replies

I finally finished the Curved Lid Jewelry Box that I made for my wife. It's curly maple that's dyed. The sides are dyed with India Ink and then 6 coats of semi-gloss lacquer and then 4 coats of wax. The plans are from Woodsmithshop.com. Thanks for viewing.ning-dscn0123-32007-52.jpg?width=300ning-dscn0124-32007-9.jpg?width=300ning-dscn0125-32007-32.jpg?width=300

Great looking box Mike.

What dye did you use for the tiger maple?

I just keep hammering away.

I used Trans Tint liquid dye, It's orange and reddish brown mixed in alcohol. You can mix it in water but the alcohol drys faster and doesn't raise the grain as much.

Thanks all for the comments!

Mike I love the box. The color is just so perfect. It really brings out the curly maple grain. Thanks for posting this. What issue of Woodsmith were the plan in or were they just available on the web site?

I felt something was missing so I added a final touch this afternoon. I think the dividers finish it off nicely.

Thank you Wayne it was a lot of fun to build and it's one that I'll build again. The next one I'd like to build will have the basic shape & design but taller with a couple of drawers.

nice box, good addition.

Here is the post John!

That's gorgeous, Mike!

It's pretty big. Are you going to have to buy her more jewelry to fill it??
