April 1, 201214 yr I've had some minwax stains turn to gel from getting too old does that count? . I have used some gel stain in the past and for my small projects it doesn't work real well. However I have heard good things about the General gel stain in the past.  GregScroll Saw forum hosthttp://www.thesawdustfactory.net/
April 1, 201214 yr Author That was funny Greg. I have used Minwax Gel Stain and it turned out ok but it was a pita to use. Dried too fast and streaked. Keeping a wet edge was very important, but I had a hard time keeping it wet! Thanks again Greg.Greg Aksdal said: I've had some minwax stains turn to gel from getting too old does that count? . April 1, 201214 yr I've used it once and it does dry very quickly which can be good and bad as you've stated. I would think in order for you to spray it you would have to thin it out so you would be better off with the traditional viscosity stain and it's probably cheaper.
April 2, 201214 yr I used some on the Oak Table I did a while back John, I had the problems you described, having a hard time keeping a wet edge and working in in corners was a problem. I either pulled to much off when I wiped it or it blotched up in the corners. I managed to get it on but it was the pits. I like a lot of their products and I am sure my problems are just inexperience with gel stains.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
