Looking for an 8" tool rest

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I am looking for two tool rests actually. a 3-4" and a 8-9" with a 5/8" post. It doesn't matter what angle. Whether it be flat round or angled or made for bowls or spindle work doesn't really matter either. I would just like to have one smaller than the six inch I have and the 12" that I also have.

Who makes it isn't a real issue either as long as it has a 5/8" post

I'm seeing lots of 3-4inch ones, so that's not a real issue, but hardly any 8-9". i'd like to buy them together if I can. That's why I am waiting to buy the smaller one.

Thanks for reading

This website is new so it doesn't have much to it yet but you are welcome to take a look :)

Just about all of the suppliers sell the tool rests your looking for . Penn State Woodcraft Craft supplies etc etc. Just do a google search.

Might be cheaper to have a welding shop make you what you want. A 5/8" post and round bar stock for the top.

Google is the search engine that I used. I'm sure if you call the machine shops and explained your situation they'd deliver, all you have to do is call and explain what the dimensions of the tool rests are they'd make them.

I agree with Mike about the phone call. I'll bet many of the local welding/machine shops have computers. A phone call to explain your situation and an email with an attached drawing would probably net you exactly what you want.

You could use the Paint program built into Windows or here is a link to a little more sophisticated program http://download.cnet.com/Windows-Draw/3000-2191_4-10043116.html. If you are using Google Sketchup, you can export your drawing as a 2D JPEG file. Bit files and Jpegs can be opened on virtually any computer.

Charles, I purchased a small one at WoodCraft. They carry some that you purchase the post separate from the rest so you can get the post size you need. I don't remember the brand on it but the rest was a round one.
