Good Friday and ready to start a wonderful weekend. Got up this morning with a little chill in the air as compared to the past few weeks here. High today should only reach the low 70's. The beginning to a wonderful weekend that will end with the celebration of the Risen Savior, Jesus Christ.

I hope you will all be able to attend a worship service in your area to Worship and Celebrate the Life, Death and Resurrection or my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

As with most weeks here lately it has been really busy and I have been out of my shop more than I have been in there. I did get a little time a couple of nights this week to finish up a few items before the first Craft show of the season for me. I am already getting booked up so I will have to keep busy from here on out.

My second attempt at a Bowl from a Board was a success!!!

The first one blew up when I had it on the lathe. I think it was more a bad place in the board than the technique. But anyway here is the second on I had in the press and it turned out very nice. It is just finished with Mineral Oil.

ning-cherryboardbowl1-31344-9.jpg?width=ning-cherryboardbowl2-31344-34.jpg?widthI am not sure how I did this. I thought I was lined up on my marks, but it appears I got the bottom turned and not lined up with the sides. But that may just be the way the board looks when it is separated.

ning-cherryboardbowl3-31344-35.jpg?widthSorry about the glare on this one. I cut a recess in the bottom of the bowl, no glue block, and mounted it to my jaws on the chuck. It held this one fine. When I finished the outside and the inside, I turned it around and turned the bottom to give it an edge to sit on. So it is recessed in the middle.

It was a lot of fun and I can't wait now to get several in the press and get them turned. Thanks SQ, I think I have a new project!

I also finished up five Edge Grain Cutting boards. Well I have to put my brand on them before tonight.

Then the grandkids will be here on Sunday and after Worship services and lunch it will be on to some fun Easter Egg Hunts. I love those hunts!

What are you doing this wonderful weekend? Working in the shop, yard work, HDL or home improvement? Tell us about it, show us pictures and share with the rest of us.

Nice projects, John!

I really like the foot treatment on the bowl!

Got the stain on my brother-in-law's lectern yesterday. The lectern is made from red oak and the stain is MinWax Golden Oak. As usual, no matter how careful, there were a couple of glue smears that showed up but a sharp chisel took care of them. It's cool in the basement so it'll probably be a couple of days before it is dry enough to do the Poly.

Great looking bowl John and good luck on first Friday.  I'm working on stock.  Flag cases and pocket watch cases specifically but I think I may have to build my oldest grand-daughter a new kite.  I just heard that hers got sacrificed to the "tree gods" by her younger sister.  Sunday will be spent in church celebratin the resurrection on our Saviour.  He is Risen!

I started yesterday to make 5 frames for my daughter as I have been busy with other stuff for awhile. So I have to get these done before I can move on to other things. These frames are for some posters that she got and they are all the same size. So I made up the prototype yesterday and once I got things all figured out I cut up everything and ran then through the dado blade to cut out the mounting area. I should get then wrapped upped and assembled today and then tomorrow get them all sanded and ready to stain.

John - the bowl looks great - tell us again the technique you used making this bowl from a 3/4" board.  Hmmm, just had a thought (oops) - wonder if this project could be made with different species of wood.........................

Although turning in not my strong suit, I just might have to try it - sounds intriguing.

Well let's see, farmers market in the morning in conjunction with the town Easter egg hunt, so hopefully I'll sell a few things 113.gif and kick the season off good, work as usual tomorrow too. Church on Sunday, at which I'm narrating 5 songs for the chior, that should prove interesting Grin.gif. Sunday afternoon I'm going to ride my lawnmower around the yard and hopefully when I get done the grass will be a couple inches shorter Grin.gif, if I feel real energetic 18.gif I may even see if the weedeater might start, then I'll try to get some time in the shop in the evening or I might just park myself in the recliner Grin.gif  Great looking bowl John, I think it turned out just fine.

Here's a couple of pics from today's market. The crowd was kind of weak this year, but there were several other events going on in nearby towns also 112.gif. I sold a few things113.gif, talked to a lot of people, met up with some customers from last year 113.gif  and saw some friends I haven't seen in a couple months 103.gif, so all in all it was a great day even if I didn't need an armored car to haul the money away Grin.gif.

The weather was cool enough that I didn't have to bother with a canopy.

I kicked off my Craft Show season Friday night in downtown Florence. Sold several cutting boards and a couple of pens. One of the pens my SIL, Adam, made. I was excited that he sold a pen.

Sorry about the picture, I didn't know that I had that much glare off the truck windows behind the table.

ning-firstfridaybooth-31347-70.jpg?widthSome of the vendors said it was pretty slow as far as sales went. I had a lot of people stop by and thought it was a pretty good night.

We had a wonderful Sunday! Early Worship service, Sunday School, played the music for the second service and them home with family. After a wonderful meal, the kids had a big time hunting Easter Eggs.

Hope you all had a great weekend and got so spend some time with your family!

Nice looking bowl John.  Sometimes I wish I had a lathe, bur not seeing any room for in the garage shop.  Yea I'm running little late on this post.  Wife change her mind about going to her mom house but says we are differently going 4-12.  So that let me get a little shop time and call up my lumber guy.  While waiting for him to call me back, I got to work making re-saw jig for the Grizzly 14 inch band saw.  Had several ideas from different wood magazine, but settle on this one.  Had to modify it due to the fence that came with the band saw.ning-bandsawresawjig-31346-9.jpg?width=7

Now it looks like I am going to have to break down and order that tall fence from Grizzly for re-sawing.  Tried to come up on making one, but having to struggle in how to attach it so it be stable.  Good news, the lumber guy call.  Went and pick 16 BF of walnut, 16 BF of Cherry, 30 BF of White Oak, 5 BF of Sycamore.  He did not have any Maple Frown.gif but says Box Elder would work on what I had in mind.  So I got  16 BF of Box Elder.  My poor little lumber rack is looking little full.
