Email From Woodgears

Featured Replies

Fellow Woodworkers-

Just received this email from WoodGears. Posting it here for your information:

"Someone has (somehow) obtained part of the mailing list for woodgears.ca and sent out an email pretending to be me trying to peddle the 16,000 woodworking plans Ted's woodworking fraud. The email was titled "16,000 Woodworking Plans and Projects"

Rest assured, it wasn't me.

Steve Ramsey has recently done some digging into this 16,000 woodworking plans thing. The entire contents of this set of plans is pirated stuff that is otherwise freely available on the internet. Quite lame - to pirate stuff that is otherwise free and then try to sell it. Even if you have no issues with piracy, every one of those plans being peddled can be found for free online with just a Google search. And it's not even the best of what is freely available, nor is it organized in any way. No plans from woodgears.ca are in the collection, not even the free ones (my plans are of much higher quality than the crud in that package)

Steve Ramsey has recently done an investigation into this fraud:

http://www.woodworkingformeremortals.com/2012/04/teds-woodworking-fraud.html

I already reported the email address used to gmail (woodgears.ca@gmail.com) - this is not my email address. I also reported the abuse to the mailing list provider used by the fraudster (mailchimp.com)

Thanks to all who have reported this.

Want to help? If there's any way you know to make life difficult for the fraudster (http://www.tedswoodworking.com/) or the email abuser (woodgears.ca@gmail.com) please go ahead and do it :) Direct all hate mail to woodgears.ca@gmail.com !

And sorry that this has happened. I don't know how this person managed to get hold of much of the mailing list. The only place it's stored online is on mailchimp's servers. Mailchimp unfortunately only offers live support during business hours.

Please note that unsubscribing from the woodgears.ca mailing list will not remove you from the fraudster's copy of the list. If you received the fraudulent email, please use the unsubscribe link in that email.

You are receiving this email because you opted in to receive emails at woodgears.ca"

I am posting this because I recommended this site- and still do- in one of my posts

I have seen this site as well Lew, thanks for the headsup!!!! I checked into it myself a while back, I was going to put it here on our site for our members to purchase plans, but I had a bad feeling about it. Thanks again for the warning.

Ted's plans are not the only ones out there. There are other set's under the same preface, Woodworking4 Home is just one of the others. I forget what magazine did a review on this, but they publicized that all the plans included were available free on the internet. Not to mention that in the 14,000 or what ever plans included, there were about 6500 different plans, yes the rest were duplicates or in some cases triplicated.
