The poor old lathe did not get powered up this week. When you have a small (very small) shop, any finishing will bring all other dust making operations to a screeching halt. Now that the lectern is done, maybe I can get to that steady rest project.

Back in February, one of the members was having difficulty sharpening lathe tools. Unfortunately, at that time, I had not seen this article on a motorized home built sharpener based on the “Scary†system. Even though this particular device uses a dedicated motor, I think it could be adapted to lathe mounting. You can see the step by step here- http://www.davidreedsmith.com/Articles/VerySharp/VerySharp.htm . As mentioned before, Mr. Smith has some awesome turning tips and projects.

Here is the link to some videos at a site in the United Kingdom. There is a lot of good stuff here as well as the videos. http://www.turningtools.co.uk/videos/videos.html#raffan . I did notice some of the videos require QuickTime to play.

Don't forget to post your turnings! We all love to see what you are doing!

Lew, I know the feeling. I get to the same point in my shop. I have to try to get as many projects ready to finish so when I start I don't make any dust until everything is done.

I didn't get to the lathe this week either. I do have a few turning projects to get on, but the weekend was busy and I kinda of enjoyed family over and resting from the shop. I will be back in there tomorrow night going strong though.

Thanks John and John!

Hope the other members find the links interesting. Do you think it would be helpful to include a screen shot of some of the info from the sites or might that violate a copyright?

Lew, I don't think they would care as long as you include a link to their site to give them full credit. After all, we are introducing folks to their site that may otherwise never know they existed. So I would imagine they would be pleased that we are redirecting our members and guests to their site. We believe in open content here at TPW, unlike other sites that get their panties all in a bunch if you link to anything outside their forum. We are a free network.

Thanks. I was concerned about causing you trouble.

My thoughts were that by adding a picture, more members might see something interesting and be more likely to click the link. I hesitate linking sites that are video heavy just because not everyone has broadband. It seems unfair to exclude members just because their connections are on the slower side.

Looking forward to seeing it, Arlin. Never been able to master the art of lettering or any carving.

For the last 2 weeks I have been carving out a sign for the neighbour with their last name on it and a horse head at the front.  I will post it when I get it done this week.

Thanks for checking Lew, we appreciate it!
