April 13, 201214 yr Just because it is Friday the 13th doesn't mean that we can slack off on our woodworking projects. Â Not a time to be suspicious or walking under ladders or stepping on cracks in the sidewalk. Â (Just be a little more careful in our shops.) As for me, it's down in the shop working on more State Quarter Maps for upcoming shows. Â It is amazing I'm still selling these things. Â I guess those folks who have saved all their quarters are still getting them out and wanting to display them. If y'all haven't seen these maps, I have attached a small picture of them. Â NOW what have y'all got planned for today and the week end - woodworking wise ? ? ? ? ? ? Fredaka Pop's Shopwww.pops-shop.comEX-21'Soooooo many patterns - sooooo little time'
April 13, 201214 yr Wow, what a shock I had when I logged in today to do the Friday post and found it already up! Way to go Fred, thanks for kicking it off in style. Love those maps. I never could hold on to my quarters with the kids and grandkids wanting them so I never saved enough to put on the map. But hey those are so cool, and who knows, one day I may start putting them back and fill one.As for me this weekend, I am working on cutting boards. I got four more cut out in the rough pieces and ready to start running them across the jointer and planner. I should get them in the first glue up Saturday and hopefully I will get to the second glue up on Sunday so they will be ready for the drum sander on Monday evening.I am a bit behind, but what is unusual about that right, working on the cedar chest. I still like a bit of sanding before I can put the new skirt around the bottom and put the finish on.I also have gotten down to the last day and have got to do my dreaded Income Tax this weekend. I hate written that check and paying them all year long right out of my check. Oh well I want start on that in this thread. So as Fred ask above, what are the rest of you planning this weekend? Working in the shop, HDL, home improvement, yard work, or just goofing off? You know, inquiring minds want to know, so share with us.Thanks Fred for kicking this off this weekend!John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

April 13, 201214 yr It is raining here, so the Danish Oil that I put as a top coat on some poster frames for my daughter is taking awhile to cure. So maybe tomorrow I will be able to wrap those up and get them out of the shop and move onto other things. My wife's Mom came out from Yuma, AZ yesterday and will be with us until Sunday, so we will be hang in with family a lot this weekend. Tonight we will be doing a family birthday thing form my son who turned 23 this past Wednesday. Saturday we will be going out to dinner and a concert with my son and his wife and her parents to see Darrell Mansfield and his band play. Darrell is a Christian artist who plays blues and classic rock and is a phenominal harmonica player, so we are looking forward to that. So today for me since it is raining I am sitting here in my office doing computer work and reading a book with some nice instrumental music playing and Sylar our Schnauzer snoozing on the couch.Allen WorshamCorona, CAallenworsham@earthlink.nethttp://www.awcreationsandwoodcrafts.com'Graze in every man's field, but always give your own milk' J. April 15, 201214 yr No woodworking this week-end unless replacing baseboard in the bath room at mother in law house qualify as woodworking.  Wife & I went back to her mother house in MO ton Thursday to do more work and clearing more stuff to get the house ready to sell. Brought home several pictures, 5 or 6 quilts, some yard tools and I'm not sure what else she loaded in cardboard boxes. Did bring what she call library table. To me it hall table. Any way I'll have to do some repairs on the legs sometime in the future before I'll put it back together.Wayne EWayne E
April 16, 201214 yr  Re-habbing saws, and a desk project.   Trying to avoid Honey-dos.... 'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
April 16, 201214 yr In between the thunder, lightning and rain as well as having a busy weekend with family stuff, I got the frames completed for my daughter. She loves this Sci-Fi TV series called "Firefly" that was out a few years back, and came across some posters from the show. So she wanted me to make her some wood frames in a darker wood color for them. The prints are all 17"x22 so I used the left over beech that I used for making the 10 large frames from church as well as some scrap hard board and peg board for the backs. She wanted it stained dark, so I got some ebony stain from Home Depot and gave them a couple of coats letting it soak into the wood. Then due to the grain it came out with an interesting look with dark and light grain which my daughter loved. I gave it a top coat of some Danish Oil in a natural color which gave it a bit of an amber hew. Since we had the nasty rainy weather with temperatures dropping, the oil took a few days to fully cure and even then I had a couple of uneven spots. I took some 400 grit paper to it and blended it all in. So it was not the best finish in the world, but these will be hanging in the bedroom and she is happy. But before I will hang them for her (I have to put in some screw in drywall anchors to hold the screws due to the weight of the frames) she has to clean her room first. The only carpet that I can see in the room is a half-round area where the door swings open.
