Auction Day

Featured Replies

Went to an auction today of a cabinet shop that went out of business.  In the mix was part of an estate of an old friend and fellow woodworker.  It was a great day.  I met up again with fellow TPW member Darcy Warner and I spent a little money.  I bought a 1947 Unisaw (right tilt) and an old working Craftsman jointer.  I didn't want the jointer but there was a $20 starting bid and noone wanted it so I bought it for $20.  As for the Delta Unisaw, I won't disclose what I paid for it but I'm going to church twice tomorrow to repent.

Larry, it is in perfect condition with original paint so no restoration is needed.  I don't have the goose egg cover but I think it may be in the owner's shop because the belts are fairly new and he might not have put it cback on.  I'm checking on that.  However, I have the top off and will do the routine maintenance on it.  It was purchased in 1948 by a local dentist who didn't hurt it any and then it went to a shop teacher that I had in high scholl.  Obviously, he didn't hurt it either.  Whille I have the top off I'll polish the cast.

Greg, is it contagious?

Here's the newest member of the Dudelston household.  I'm a 1948 model and this is a 1947 model.  And yes, its in better shape than me.  I think the goose egg cover is still at the old owner's house so I'll be searching for it.

Ron, it looks great. Man you got a deal on that one. Looks like the top is in perfect condition. I hope you are able to find the original cover for the motor.

I think I've been bit.  BTW, I ran the numbers on the jointer and it is a Craftsman made by King-Seeley in the late 40's.  Its listed as a 6 1/8" and it purrs like a kitten and it is HEAVY.  It was made when it was Craftsman, not Crapsman.  After I took theses pictures I took a can of citrus cleaner the the lower saw base and it came clean.  I prefer to leave the original paint if possible.

Left it.

Ron.......Even though the saw appears to be in good shape I would still change both arbor and motor bearings. Being that the saw is pushing retirement age and not knowing how the saw has been used/abused over those years I feel it good insurance knowing it will last another 50 yrs with minimal expense.
