April 16, 201214 yr Am I the only one having trouble with Murphy popping his ugly head up lately? I finished and assembled a pen that I got from Woodcraft recently, it's called a Princeton TG. Everything went without a hitch til I tried to put it together. I even got a very nice CA finish on the amboyna burl I used. When I put the first two parts together though using my pen press, the nib got a really gnarly looking ring around it from pressure from the press rubbing against the nib. I have tried buffing it, it's not coming off not even with a 2000 grit sanding mesh. Any suggestions other than calling Woodcraft? I have already sent them an email. I have to say that other than the dirty ring around the nib, it's a great looking pen. April 16, 201214 yr Charles, Don't feel alone, Murphy's everywhere! One of these days he'll show himself, and I've got a size 13EEE with his name on it just waiting! Â Larry OWWM Forum Host

April 16, 201214 yr What are you using for a press?  I use my lathe as a press. I have two pieces of material that is used for synthetic cutting boards that I turned to a #2 morris taper and then drilled a tapered hole in each. Before I press the parts together I use a deburring tool on the inside of the barrel tubes and the parts go together without much effort. You may be using too much pressure to assemble the parts.
