April 19, 201214 yr  Just like a Stanley #40??   maybe, but rather than the bidding wars on fleebay, i went another route.   Seems there is a fellow i know up in michigan, that has a web show.    One of his shows was about.... Handplanes!!!  Seems he likes a little plane from harbor freight called a "Windsor #33 bench plane.   His costs about $10 ( mine was $9) and decided to try out some ideas with it.   One idea was to convert it into a nice little scrub plane like a Stanley #40.    Idea worked real nice!!!   The iron IS kind of thick on the #33.    A 3" radius needs to be ground on it to make it into a scrub plane iron.   A picture of this wonder??Just a litle thing ( TWO of these will take up the same length as a single #5 Jack Plane) as for the iron itself? Not a perfectly ground edge, but i did it freehand.    With LOTS of water handy.   Stick this iron back into the plane, and get ready to take a big bite!Still plenty of room for chips to slide through.  This is for taking rough lumber down to get it ready for the jack plane to work.   This goes ACROSS the grain.    All for about $10, or less..... 'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
