April 24, 201214 yr Since January I have been struggling off and on with reoccuring bronchitis and have been through about 5 bouts of antibiotics and oral steroids.I have been a life long asthmatic so this is something that I have had happen before over the years. I thought that I had things beat when it reared its ugly head again yesterday, so I headed over to the clinic this morning to get to the bottom of it all. After talking with the doctor about all of this, she checked me out and listened my lungs and then had some chest x-rays done. Once she got the images on her computer she showed them to me and it was clear that I had "Walking Pneumonia" which was a surprise, but makes a lot of sense. I got all kinds of stuff in my right lung while my left lung has a number of small spots that are starting to spread. So she had my bee-hind shot up with a heavy duty antibiotic as well as a heavy duty steroid (both of which I have never heard of before). She also gave me a prescription for a 5 day regiment of another antibiotic and a 6 day regiment of another oral steroid as well. On top of that she got me a different rescue inhaler to replace the one that I had been using for close to 20 years that is more potent as well as another inhaler to deal with bronchial inflammation. Good thing I got good medical insurance. So this should finally get my lungs cleared out and back to normal. But until I get back in next Monday for the doctor to give me a re-check and take more x-rays to make sure that they are clear, there is no saw dust for me. But the good thing is that my wife Tami and I will be getting away for the weekend to the beach for some R&R to celebrate our 28th anniversary. We will be taking things easy with a lot of reading and getting sand between our toes and relaxing along the So. Calif. coast. The most stressful thing we have planned is deciding the restaurants that we will be eating at. April 24, 201214 yr AllenThat not good news as to what you got. I had it about 20 years ago and my doctor gave me some prescription but only after he gave me 2 choices. 1 go home and stay in bed or 2 head to hospital for couple of days. I chose to go home. And guess what he did. He called my wife right after I left the doctor office and told her what he told me. Yup she made sure I stayed in bed. Your good news is you get to move around and getto do a few things. Think I would like your doctorbetter than the one I had. Get well and take it easy Wayne E   Wayne E

April 24, 201214 yr Author John, Tami and I had planned on going up north to Santa Barbara, but the availability of decent hotels was very limited and very pricey. Also it would have been a hefty drive (about 3 -3.5 hours  each way depending on LA traffic and construction along the way) and we would have gone through a tank and a half of gas, which makes it even more pricey. So will be staying down in Newport Beach which is about a 40-45 minute drive at the Newport Beach Marriott Bayview which is up above Pacific Coast Highway on the Upper Newport Bay. It was about 1/3 less per night and a much nicer hotel then the one I was looking at in SB as well as not nearly as much gas as we will only go through about half a tank with all of our driving. So that will save us a fair amount which I am sure we will put into other things on the trip. While it is not on the beach, they have very nice grounds on the bay. It is an easy 5 minute drive to PCH and the coast. We will be driving north to Huntington Beach and walk the pier and get a bite to eat at "Ruby's Diner" on the end of the pier overlooking the water. It is always a fun place to get some ice cream and watch the waves and then walk on the beach. We can drive south on PCH to Laguna Beach and Dana Point harbor as well as we enjoy those places. So we have lots of options and will just take things easy and relax as we have no real agenda. The weather is supposed to be clear and in upper 60's to low 70's, so perfect sweatshirt and flannel weather with no worries of my bald head getting sunburned. We love driving the coast, so it should be a nice weekend. April 24, 201214 yr Author Well, the only reason that we will still be able to get away is that I have 4 full days to rest up and rest I will or Tami might kill me. Also our hotel reservation was done online and non-refundable in order to get the best price. So even if I had to be lying down recovering, I would do it in the hotel on a lounge next to my wife by the pool overlooking the bay while reading our books. This will definitely be an easy going weekend. I even ordered a new Kindle for my electronic books so I don't have to carry my lap top around. I would steal my wife's iPad for this, but she has gotten pretty attached to it and doesn't like to share it with me. Besides, while I can and do read on my laptop, the Kindle is much easier on my eyes as it is not back lit.The Kindle should be here Wednesday or Thursday so I can take it along.Wayne Ellington said:AllenThat not good news as to what you got.
