May 11, 201214 yr Never fear. Woodworking will appear in this post to the Woodworking Forum...I promise! If not, I'm sure the forum host will move it. My sisters left last Saturday after a two week visit. We had an absolute blast. Sunday, we took a day of rest. Monday I spent most of the day installing a new WIFI router and getting all the radios and computers to recognize and work with their new partner. The computers were happy about it. The WIFI radios were not! Broke out the manuals and tried a bunch of the suggested methods of installation. NONE WORKED. Called the company (CC Crane) and spent an hour or so on the phone with them. No help. Then I called my internet provider and begged for their help. Although they couldn't help with the radio they did suggest that I go through the install process again and insure that all my entries were correct. I was sure that they were as I had done the process several times already. I did the process again and EUREKA I found the problem. I'd entered the SSID in caps on the radios and it was all lower case in the router. Whew, got that problem solved. Now, on to the easy one, the Brother printer. Same problems. It would not recognize the router. Tuesday and Wednesday were spent attempting all fixes in the printer manual, calling my provider again and, finally calling the shop that sold me the printer. No deal...wouldn't work. Thursday I said the heck with it, I'm headed to the shop. I know glue up will be more rewarding than fiddling with this electronic stuff. (Oh, if I were just 30 or 40 years younger) Anyway, after gluing up several slabs for the most ambitious (size wise) band saw box I've ever attempted, I returned to the printer. After an hour with no progress, I broke down and called the seller's shop and scheduled a service call. While waiting on the glue to dry and for the technician to arrive, I fixed two leaks on the deck roof and installed a lock set on the front entry. Man, Quickset's re-key system is really slick. And the locking mechanism is adjustable for various back sets. Amazing how things changed in the 15 years since I last hung a door. The tech arrived. He spent 2 hours with no luck in setting up the printer. After repeated suggestions that he call Brother for help, he finally did. He had a number to call that I didn't have that is only for dealers. In 15 minutes it was up and running. Hallelujah!! The rest of the day, was spent in the shop. I got about half of the band sawing done by 5:00 and I was beat. No pictures yet, but this is one massive set of walnut band saw boxes. After cutting into them, several stress cracks appeared that were not evident in the 2" slabs. I'm thrilled. More opportunity for epoxy and turquoise inlays. Today, Friday, it's back to the shop to complete all the sawing. Then it's on to the sanding. If I'm lucky I'll get some pictures this evening. Thanks for sharing my week. Catch ya'll later.  Gene 'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton

May 11, 201214 yr Author Got the set cut out. The taller one is 14" tall. The smaller one is 11". They are 5 3/4" thick. I'll add maple pulls to the drawers and mount them on a board sculpted to resemble water. Next step is sanding. More later. May 12, 201214 yr Beautiful boxes Gene. Man I love that walnut, so dark and rich in color. Gals you got all of the computer stuff happy. That in itself is worth celebrating. Nothing like a little shop time to relieve some stress.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
May 12, 201214 yr Author Thanks John. I love walnut, too. But, I think Mesquite is my favorite. It can be a challenge sometimes but is so pretty when finished. 8/4 stuff is pretty rare. Got one 8/4 live edged slab that is destined to be a coffee table and there's a few logs out back that I'll get about 10 board foot of 8/4 from. Just gotta fire up the chainsaw. Probably this summer.Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton
